Most detergent is built to smell good in the shop. What you smell on the shelf is top notes, and top notes evaporate in about an hour — which is why your clothes smell of nothing by lunchtime.
Ours are built like fragrances instead: top, heart and base. What survives to five o'clock is woods, spice and musk, because that is what was designed to survive.
3 signatures, 2 formats, no bulky bottles. That is the whole range, and it is deliberate.
Bio. Our sheets contain enzymes, and enzymes are the only thing that separates a biological detergent from a non-biological one. Everything else on the box is marketing.
Enzymes break down sweat, body oil and food — the things your body actually puts on your clothes — and they do it at 30°C. Non-bio has to use heat for the same job.
One honest exception, and almost nobody in the category tells you this: enzymes break down protein, and wool, silk and cashmere are protein. Use a dedicated wool wash on those. Everything else in your wardrobe is better off with bio.
Detergent sheets: anionic and non-ionic surfactants · enzymes · polyvinyl alcohol · sodium citrate · fragrance.
Fabric softener: under 5% cationic surfactants (the softening agents) · fragrance microcapsules.
That is the list. No phosphates, no dyes, no chlorine bleach, no optical brighteners, no animal-derived ingredients — and never tested on animals.

No — and we won't claim they are.
The sheet is held together by polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), a water-soluble synthetic polymer. It dissolves rather than fragmenting, so it does not behave like a polyester microfibre, but the science on what happens to dissolved PVA downstream is still genuinely unsettled. The ASA has upheld complaints against detergent-sheet brands that called this plastic-free. We would rather name our polymer than hide behind a badge.
What we can say plainly: no plastic bottle, no plastic film around the dose, and 100% recyclable cardboard. A box posts through a letterbox. A four-litre jug does not.

One sheet, straight into the empty drum, then your clothes on top. Not the drawer.
It dissolves in seconds and works at 30°C. Half a sheet is plenty for a small load.
No measuring, no cap to over-fill, no jug in the cupboard.
30 sheets per box — one sheet, one regular load. Tear them in half for smaller loads and a box stretches to 60.
A 1L fabric softener is a minimum of 30 washes.
Less than most brands would have you believe, and we would rather be straight about it.
Both are pre-measured, and neither lets you dose up for hard water. Both use the same water-soluble polymer, polyvinyl alcohol. The difference is where it sits: in a pod it is a film wrapped around concentrated liquid; in a sheet it is the carrier itself, with the water taken out.
What that changes in practice: a sheet has no film to split in a cupboard, nothing squeezable, and it ships flat. Pods carry child-safety warnings for a reason — concentrated liquid in a soft, brightly coloured wrapper. Keep them locked away if you have them.
No — but they do different jobs.

Up to the max line, not past it. Overfill and the siphon triggers early, which sends your softener into the main wash where it does nothing at all.
Noticeable, not loud. It should read as you smell good, rather than your clothes smell of detergent.
Judge it properly: wash, dry fully, then smell it eight hours later. What you smell at the machine door is top notes, and top notes are not the point.
Our fabric softener carries fragrance microcapsules that sit on the fibre and release as the fabric moves against itself and against you. Depending on the fabric, how the garment is worn and how it is stored, the scent can last up to 2 weeks after washing.
It shouldn't. The signatures are built low and dry — woods, spice, musk — rather than the sweet floral direction most laundry fragrance takes. They sit underneath a fragrance rather than fighting it.
If you want them to work together deliberately: Night Fold under anything woody or ambered, Ocean Air under anything fresh, Wild Spice under almost nothing — it holds its own.
Yes — cold, warm and short cycles. Put the sheet into the empty drum first, under the clothes, and it will be gone before the drum has finished filling.
The one thing that causes residue is putting a sheet on top of a packed drum, where it can end up trapped in a fold of dry fabric.
Yes. Front-loaders and top-loaders, standard and high-efficiency, all common UK machines.
Yes: cotton, linen, denim, synthetics, blends, bedding, shirts.
No: wool, silk and cashmere. Those are protein fibres, and the enzymes that make a bio detergent good at sweat and body oil will slowly digest them. Use a dedicated wool wash — that is true of any biological detergent, not just ours.
And keep the softener off towels and technical sportswear. It coats the fibre, which is exactly what you want on a shirt and exactly wrong on a towel.
Yes. No animal-derived ingredients, and no animal testing at any stage — as every modern household product should be.
We don't make skin claims, and we would be sceptical of any fragranced laundry product that does.
Our scents are developed to IFRA standards for household products, and like all fragrance — fine perfume and natural essential oils included — they contain naturally occurring allergens, which are declared. If you know you react to fragranced detergent, this is not the product for you. If you're unsure, run a small load first.

Yes. The signatures are built on masculine fragrance structures — woods, spice, musk — but that is a description of the composition, not a lock on who gets to wear it.
A good number of our customers first bought Element for someone else and then kept it.
The sheet boxes are 100% recyclable cardboard, slim enough to post through a letterbox and light enough that we're not shipping water around the country.
The softener bottles are recyclable — check your local kerbside guidance, as it varies by council.
Element is a British brand. The products are manufactured in China.
We work with 2 specialist partners who make detergent sheets and fabric softeners for a living — to our formulas, our fragrance briefs and our quality standard. The scents are developed with international perfumers and formulated in line with IFRA, the standards the fine fragrance houses work to. The brand, the formulation direction, the packaging and the standard are all set here in the UK.
We chose those partners on capability rather than postcode. Buying direct from them, with no supermarket or distributor in between, is why a product built to fine fragrance standards does not carry a fine fragrance price.
